@Polymarket βAI will replace PhDs.β Reality check: current models arenβt reliable or autonomous. Independent testing, not lab benchmarks, shows the gap. Some third-party evaluations report ~97% failure rates on digital tasks. Let that sink in. Silicon Valley often lives in its own bubble. When the hype meets the real economy, the consequences wonβt stay in tech. Why do we take AI labs at their word about their own technology? Scrutiny isnβt anti-innovation. Itβs accountability. https://t.co/Ut4hpvUrTa

I'm pleased to announce that a new 2026 edition of my New York Times bestselling book, Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future, will be available on June 2. I have extensively updated the book to cover the latest advances in generative #AI and robotics and to examine the future economic and job market implications of the unfolding AI disruption. The book focuses on what we can do as individuals, and as a society, to successfully navigate the looming transition into the age of AI. You can pre-order from the link in the reply. @BasicBooks #RiseoftheRobots
More US executions in 2025 than any year since 2009. In theory, the death penalty is reserved for βthe worst of the worst.β In practice, people executed are disproportionately poor or intellectually disabled, lacked good lawyers, or killed a white person. https://t.co/dHQy3jY7qW
@athundt @TaliaRinger @RishiBommasani Yeah, I didnβt even get to that point before falling asleep last night but (in my mind at least) of course this also requires a deeply immoral fundamentally exploitive mindset about PhD students existing to provide cheap labor.
FACT: The hypothesis that βScaling is all you needβ for AGI has been the costliest mistake in scientific history.
@PatrickMoorhead All current Tesla vehicles are Hardware 4. Eight times better than Hardware 3. I never look at the road anymore. It's so good.
@PatrickMoorhead You don't need V5. V4 is good enough.
@goel_adity77422 @withmartian Great first post. Added you to my lists, which are the most complete of AI industry here: https://t.co/fasUz7PuHq
The future is robotic. This is some of the most meaningful work Iβve ever done in my life. Many thanks to @sundayrobotics for replying to my cold email within 10 minutes and to the team at Soon for letting the scope creep on this video. More Soon!
@gavinhall Sucks. DM me with details or share here?
this is actually insane > be tech guy in australia > adopt cancer riddled rescue dog, months to live > not_going_to_give_you_up.mp4 > pay $3,000 to sequence her tumor DNA > feed it to ChatGPT and AlphaFold > zero background in biology > identify mutated proteins, match them to drug targets > design a custom mRNA cancer vaccine from scratch > genomics professor is βgobsmackedβ that some puppy lover did this on his own > need ethics approval to administer it > red tape takes longer than designing the vaccine > 3 months, finally approved > drive 10 hours to get rosie her first injection > tumor halves > coat gets glossy again > dog is alive and happy > professor: βif we can do this for a dog, why arenβt we rolling this out to humans?β one man with a chatbot, and $3,000 just outperformed the entire pharmaceutical discovery pipeline. we are going to cure so many diseases. I dont think people realize how good things are going to get

We will look back on AlphaFold as one of the greatest things to come from AI. Will keep giving for generations to come.

@ben_j_todd Is there evidence this is true over all?
@sandwichhawk @JeremiahDJohns Indianaβs surplus is 676M and Californiaβs deficit is 18B. Now letβs look at how each state subsidizes (or benefits from) the rest of the country. Indiana receives 6B dollars from the federal government more than it contributes, while California receives 276B less.
@sandwichhawk @JeremiahDJohns Without the massive federal subsidies that Indiana receives (and California pays for) Indiana would have a deficit of 5B. And returning even 10% of what California spends to subsidize the rest of the country to the state would flip its net from -18B to +9B.
Great paper on agent generalization.
