High-resolution atlases like this are starting to show that retinal development is not simply a sequence of gene-driven fate decisions, but a spatiotemporal coordination problem. Cell identities appear to stabilise after spatial organisation and local interaction patterns are established, suggesting that developmental trajectories are constrained by an organising field before molecular specialisation locks in. The retina may be one of the clearest systems where geometry, timing, and neighbour interactions jointly shape biological form. @SocDevBio @drmichaellevin
