Ive spoken to him before, and hes incredibly smart, forward thinking, and more then a little aware of the state of the ai industry.\n\nHe left his potentially most profitable company in AI to build this, and could have gotten an exit on scale AI one way or another if he wanted to. Scale going public could have even been a bigger payday than meta’s. Is it possible that meta has put him in charge of a vision, and that the people leaving openai find their mission more exciting, more honest, or more meaningful? \n\n@natfriedman has insane amounts of money too as far as i know. As some pointed out, most of these reaearchers do too. Could people potentially just be taking sama’s word for it that joining meta means you have no meaning or purpose besides aquiring money - when in reality these people may *shocking* actually believe in the vision or potential for metas new initiative? Or that samas vision, even if meta’s isnt the best - is still less appealing? \n\nMetas new team isnt just there for the money, they are now free to build their vision with more resources than openai had with a clean slate. When google did this they became a serious competitor to openai in just a matter of months, and no one said Demis doesnt have vision and it hasnt stopped them from innovating on a ton of cool new things - from the ai podcasts to easily beating openais sora and probably a bunch of other things to come. I think we should just not take the word of sama that there is no meaning or purpose for the people now at meta, because there absolutely is.",
